VEX World Robotics Championship

From the Pearl of Africa to the Lone Star State

The VEX Robotics World Championship, presented by the Northrop Grumman Foundation, took place from April 25 to May 4 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. Teams from all over the world came together to compete, celebrate their hard work, and push their robots to the limit in hopes of being crowned champions.

/ The Dallas Quest

My journey started with simply wanting to know how things work. That curiosity eventually carried me all the way to Dallas for the VEX World Championship. Walking into the arena felt like stepping into the future. Representing Uganda on a global robotics stage is something I’ll always be proud of. I was there to compete and show that learning, curiosity, and discovery can open doors to innovation, teamwork, and engineering excellence.

/ Thrill of the Global Arena

The energy inside the stadium was unreal. Thousands of young engineers, robots buzzing, twirling, and rolling across the floors, teams fixing, testing, and cheering each other on. I worked with teams from different countries and quickly learned that no matter where we come from, we all speak the same language when it comes to problem-solving and technology.

/ The Spirit of Dallas

And Dallas itself was an adventure. Everything really is bigger; the buildings, the museums, and yes, even the cowboy hats. Beyond the competition, I discovered that engineering is about people rather than just about machines. I made friends who reminded me that whether you’re from Uganda or Texas, STEM connects us all. What started as a hobby was turning into a lifelong passion.

Own a Piece of the Future

I wanted to share this experience with children everywhere, and that’s what inspired my first book, Aleem’s Adventures: The Tales of Texas. In it, I take readers from international travel and the excitement of competition to the joy of exploring new places and meeting new people. Grab a copy and come along with me on this unforgettable adventure.
